Aftercare Instructions
Day 1-7:
Try to leave your Saniderm bandage on as long as possible (up to a week).
It may come off early, but the longer you can leave it on the better.
If the edges peel up that's ok! As long as the tattoo is not exposed, you can leave it on.
If at any point the tattoo becomes exposed, take the bandage off so you can start your cleaning routine.
During the week, the bandage will fill with blood and ink. This is normal! It will come off with the bandage and won't stain your tattoo.
When the time comes to remove the bandage, either take it off in the shower or by guiding it with a wet paper towel to avoid tugging at the skin too much (ouch).
How to wash and hydrate your tattoo once the bandage is removed:
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
I recommend washing with cool or warm water. (hot may hurt)
Lather up a small amount of unscented antibacterial soap in your hand and use it to gently clean your tattoo.
Rinse and dry! Always use a clean paper towel to PAT dry. Cloth towels may harbor bacteria.
IF YOUR SANIDERM COMES OFF BEFORE 7 DAYS apply a small amount of A & D ointment to your tattoo. Rub it in enough to where there is only a very thin/shiny layer on your skin. A little bit goes a long way and over-hydration can lead to your tattoo fading quicker than normal.
IF YOUR SANIDERM STAYS ON ALL 7 DAYS (or all your scabs are gone and your tattoo is in the peeling stage) you can start using an unscented lotion. Same thing here, a little goes a long way.
Tips and Aftercare FAQs:
Your tattoo may be extremely itchy, peel and/or scab! All of this is normal. Just don't scratch it!
No pool, ocean, jacuzzi or excessive sun exposure for at least the next 3 weeks.
Your Saniderm bandage may tighten on the skin when exposed to water (showering). This is normal and is how it locks out water.
Saniderm is hypoallergenic but it can very rarely cause a subtle rash along the edges of the bandage. If this starts bugging you too much you can remove the bandage or ask me for help.
Got bumps on your tattoo? It's probably from sun exposure or ingrown hairs from shaving. This is normal and will go away.
I suggest washing your tattoo morning and night after your saniderm comes off but if you are doing any activity where it might get dirty (work, gym etc) you should wash it after as well.
Try not to wash/hydrate more than 4 times a day to avoid irritating the area.
You typically don’t need to wash it after 2 weeks (or when it’s done peeling) but I recommend to keep hydrating it forever!
Apply sunscreen generously whenever your healed tattoo is exposed to sun. This will help your tattoo stay vibrant as long as possible.
